Maranatha Baptist University Celebrates 2024 Commencement Ceremony

Maranatha Baptist University celebrated its 2024 Commencement Ceremony on May 3rd with a series of events that honored the graduates and distinguished individuals within the university community.

The ceremony began with a procession of elated students into the gymnasium, accompanied by music played by Peter Wright. Dr. Matthew Davis, Maranatha’s Chief Executive Officer, opened the occasion with a prayer emphasizing the mission of MBU. He also announced the retirement of Dr. William Licht, thanking him for his 31 years of service. Chancellor Marty Marriott read from Psalm 1, followed by a special musical performance by graduate Jaren Fair.

President Dr. David Anderson delivered the commencement address, thanking various members of the university community and challenging the Class of 2024 to continue their journey with diligence and faith. Dr. Anderson emphasized the importance of studying and obeying the word of God, warning against being led astray by the temptations of the world.

Awards were presented to outstanding students in various academic departments, with Dr. Licht announcing the recipients. Highest GPA, President’s, and Founder’s Awards were also given out, recognizing students who excelled in their academic pursuits and exemplified the university's founding principles.

The conferral of degrees saw 240 graduates from 37 states and 7 foreign countries receiving a total of 254 certificates or degrees. Each graduate was called to receive their diploma, marking the culmination of their academic journey at Maranatha Baptist University.

During the ceremony, Dr. David Oliver was honored with an honorary Doctor of Divinity for his exemplary dedication to Christian education and ministry. The ceremony concluded with traditional songs, prayers of dedication, and the graduates tossing their caps into the air in celebration.

The graduates then gathered in the courtyard to ring the alumni bell, officially closing out the school year. The event was a memorable and joyous occasion for all involved, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Class of 2024.
