The Watertown Unified School District has announced the commencement of a strategic planning process aimed at charting a course for sustainability and growth in the future. Led by the Strategic Planning Workgroup, multiple meetings will be held over the upcoming months with a focus on key areas such as student performance, educator quality, community engagement, and facilities and operations.

Dr. Jarred Burke, WUSD Superintendent, emphasized the importance of community involvement in the planning process, stating, “Our community deeply values our schools and the students we serve. In our strategic planning efforts, we are uniting our community—including teachers, staff, families, administrators, board members, and community members—around how we can best move forward as a school district.” The goal is to address students' needs effectively and secure long-term success for the district.

The strategic planning process is designed to encourage collective engagement regarding the district's purpose while providing a clear direction for ongoing improvement. This plan will serve as a roadmap for decision-making, outline specific actions for progress, and facilitate monitoring, evaluation, and adjustments to achieve set goals.

To involve the public in this important initiative, a Strategic Planning Community Collaboration event is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Watertown High School Commons. Attendees are encouraged to share their ideas and feedback during the event, with refreshments available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is not required to participate.

For those interested in a more in-depth involvement, community members can sign up for the Strategic Planning Workgroup via the link https://bit.ly/wusdspsignup. The first workgroup meeting is set for Wednesday, June 5th, from 6-8 p.m.
