Delavan-Darien High School's alumni from various generations recently gathered at their alma mater for a special cause, raising $5,000 for childhood cancer research in a heartwarming display of community spirit and athletic camaraderie.

The alumni basketball tournament, named Beighton's Backcourt Battle in honor of former basketball coach Bob Beighton, was a resounding success. Kyle Polzin, DDSD Athletics & Activities Director, expressed his pride and gratitude, stating, "This tournament is a testament to the strength of our community and our collective commitment to making a difference. We are thrilled to contribute to the MACC Fund in Bob Beighton's name, honoring his legacy and supporting a vital cause."

Held at the DDHS gymnasium, the event featured three rounds of basketball games involving DDSD staff and DDHS alumni players. Adam Alter, DDHS Social Studies Teacher, commended the alumni and community for their support, saying, "We are immensely proud of our alumni and community for coming together to support such an important cause. This event not only honored Bob Beighton's legacy but also highlighted the strength and generosity of our Delavan-Darien community in supporting childhood cancer research."

The funds raised from Beighton's Backcourt Battle will be donated to the MACC Fund, furthering their efforts in childhood cancer and related blood disorder research. The commitment shown by the Delavan-Darien community demonstrates a deep dedication to making a difference in the lives of children fighting these devastating diseases.

The event was not just about basketball; it also featured halftime contests and performances by the DDHS pep band, providing entertainment and maintaining high energy levels throughout the games.
